LEGO Robotics Academy
Robotics is a combination of mechanical engineering and computer programming. Students in our class follow our structured curriculum to build and program robotic projects based on LEGO Education platform.
Younger students, typically first through third grade, learn by using the LEGO Education WeDo. Students are introduced to basic robotics and mechanical engineering concepts by building and coding a different project each week. Projects use motors, gears, pulleys, cams, and sensors.
Older students, typically fourth grade and up, use the LEGO Mindstorms, learning how to program the robot to maneuver by controlling motors; read sensors such as light sensors, ultrasonic sensors and push buttons; manipulate objects using a robotic arm; programming techniques such as switch statements, loops, and parallel programing, and more.
The LEGO Robotics Academy is a repeatable program where children are placed based on skill and experience. Students move up a level each time they take the class, taking on more advanced concepts and activities.
A basic knowledge of using a computer is recommended.
